Supplement Details:There are several studies made in relation to the use of curcumin. One of which is the studies made by Commission E where they found out that curcumin is also responsible in killing salmonella bacteria and protozoa that can causes diarrhea. They have found out of the effects of turmeric for digestion. They further approve of the use of turmeric for indigestion.
Another function of the curcumin is that it inhibits the production of lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase-2 more known as COX-2. These 2 enzymes are involved in promoting and maintaining inflammation in the body. The curcumin works by reducing the effects of these enzymes. Once the effects are reduced, there is relief in the inflammation such as in cases of arthritis and the like. This is proven with the frequent use of turmeric, the spice where curcumin occurs, by Indians. They have observed the when they resort to taking curcumin they experience relief on joint pains like arthritis. It has the same effect as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Another advantage that they experience is that there are no side effects at all. They do not experience stomach upset or abdominal bleeding which is usually associated with prolonged use of NSAIDs.
One more study was made in relation to the prevention of Alzheimer's disease. Since Alzheimer's is due to inflammation too, but this time it is not in the bones but in the brain, they have theorized that curcumin might help in slowing down cases of Alzheimer's. Further, there was a study made at the University of Chicago that focus on smokers. They took a teaspoon of turmeric each day for 30 days. After the research, they found out that the level of cancer-causing mutagens present in their urine was lowered. They concluded that curamin inhibits the growth of H. pylori. This is the bacteria believed to cause stomach and colon cancer.
Researches were also made on the effects of curcumin on preventing plaque build up in arteries. Participants took up 500 mg of curcumin everyday. The result showed that the cholesterol level changed within 10 days. Previous studies proved that curcumin helps lower blood pressure and prevent blood clots.
Curcumin keeps the heart healthy by preventing a plaque build-up in the arteries, which can lead to atherosclerosis. In one study, participants taking just 500 milligrams of curcumin each day significantly reduced their cholesterol levels in as little as 10 days. Preliminary research indicates that curcumin may also help lower blood pressure and prevent blood clots. You can take advantage of both tumeric and curcumin supplements in capsule and liquid extract forms. However, curcumin supplements have been found to be more effective for treatment of arthritis. Follow dosage instructions on the packaging.
