Supplement Details:There are several sources for cryptoxanthin. Among these are fruits like oranges, papaya, peaches and tangerine. It is also found in sources such as red bell peppers, cilantro, corn and watermelon. Alpha-carotene and beta-carotene are powerful antioxidants that are converted into vitamin A or active retinol that is needed by the body. The vitamin A is necessary in maintaining healthy vision, reproduction as well as for the body tissues. Recent studies have shown that cryptoxanthin also plays an important role in preventing many forms of cancer.
Cryptoxanthin is fat-soluble substance that needs to be taken with fat to be properly absorbed by the body. In cases such as pancreatic enzyme deficiency, Crohn's disease, celiac sprue, cystic fibrosis, surgical removal of part or all of the stomach, gall bladder disease and liver disease wherein the ability of the body to absorb fat is experienced there is a possibility that carotenoid deficiency will happen. In order to prevent this, the best thing that you can do is to consider taking carotenoid supplement.
According to Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers and Prevention in their study made in 2004, individuals who have high cryptoxanthin in their diet are likely to develop lung cancer. Preliminary studies also suggest that women with cervical cancer and patients with colon cancer have low levels of cryptoxanthin. The study they made showed that deficiency of cryptoxanthin in the diet can lead to higher risk of any other types of cancer. Researchers have theorized that the cryptoxanthin protects against cancer both by neutralizing free radicals and by stimulating the RB gene, a gene that prevents cells from becoming cancerous.
Aside from cancer, cryptoxanthin is likewise associated with aging, heart disease and arthritis. It also plays a key role in keeping the eyes healthy and preventing against age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts. Research also indicates that carotenoids may play a role in the prevention of many other serious health conditions, including Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), asthma, chronic yeast infection, and infertility.
Other effects of low cryptoxanthin are also found in people that regularly smoke or drink, have a low intake of fruits and vegetables, or who follow a low-fat diet may want to consider a carotenoid supplement. In order to supplement the required amount of cryptoxanthin, it is recommended that individuals should take in carotenoid supplement. The cryptoxanthin is available in tablet, capsule, and softgel forms. It is available in most drugstores and health food stores. When you are taking cryptoxanthin, it is better if it is taken along with beta-carotene. The beta-carotene increases the absorption of cryptoxanthin. Cryptoxanthin is also included in many of the new “green drinks” on the market, which are high in other carotenoids as well.
