Supplement Overview: A century ago, there was a new type of amino acid that is found within the human body. This is now known as carnosine or the L-carnosine, is considered as a dominant supplement for anti-aging. It was only recently that studies were made regarding the benefits of this type of amino acid.

Supplement Details:

Based on the studies made, carnosine helps in protecting the body from glycation. Glycation is the process which is associated with oxidation that is responsible in producing free radicals that cause the damage of the cells. Glycation is brought about by the use of sugar in the body. The glycation process aims for the proteins that are found in the body. Once these proteins are attacked, it is converted into Advanced Glycation End Products or commonly known as AGEs. The more AGEs that are formed within the body, more free radicals are likewise created. The free radicals cause damage in the cells and tissues of different organs like the skin and the eyes and in systems like the nervous and circulatory systems. The effects cause the skin to wrinkle, the mental ability to decline and other changes related to aging.

 

L-carnosine does not reverse the effect of glycation in the body but it can only slow down the process. There were studies made that involve laboratory rats which were administered with carnosine. Base on their study, they found out that the rats had longer life span, better brain function and better physical appearance. The same study is not yet developed in individuals who are taking carnosine supplements but there was a study that proved that carnosine can improve the life of human cells.

 

In relation to this, individuals known as life extensionists or those who seek to prolong life through holistic health treatments, made a statement. They said that there is still need to take carnosine supplements in addition to the antioxidant supplements. This is because of the fact that carnosine helps in reducing the damages that is being caused in the proteins by glycation.

 

Another function that carnosine does for the body is that it helps in the process of chelation. This is the process wherein toxic metals like copper and zinc are removed. Heavy metals which are likewise lethal such as lead and mercury are also being eliminated in this process. These serve as the host to several illnesses such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. It also causes autism, dementia, schizophrenia and ADHD. Individuals who take carnosine supplements may be prevented from experiencing these types of illnesses in the future.

 

There are several forms of carnosine supplements. There are oral forms, topical forms and eye drop forms. Since carnosine supplements in oral forms are relative new, it is advisable to take in at least 100 milligrams to 200 milligrams only per day. There were reports that more than 1 gram of intake might cause twitching of muscles.

 

Another form of the carnosine supplement is the topical form. It is primarily applied on the skin to reduce the tough and leathery appearance of the skin. It also proves to show an improved skin condition. There is also an eye drop form with n-acetylcarnosine component. With the regular use, patients with cataracts showed improvement in their eyesight. L-carnosine is different with L-carnitine. Remember that L-carnitine works with protecting the heart and help in stabilizing the blood sugar. These are two different components which serve different functions.
