Alpha Lipoic Acid Antioxidant ReviewedHow does Alpha Lipoic Acid compare? Please read our report below......
Supplement Details:Alpha-lipoic acid is a water and fat soluble subsance. For this reason, it is easily absorbed by the body's tissues that are largely comprised of either liquid medium, such as those of the nervous system and the heart. It helps increase the level of glutathione in the body, which is important in transporting immune system-impairing free radicals from the body before they can cause major damage to the cells causing such maladies as diabetes, rapid aging, heart disease, infections, and even cancer.
Our bodies naturally produce alpha-lipoic acid and can also be found in vegetables (e.g., spinach), innards (e.g., animal liver), and fungus (e.g., brewers yeast). It is advisable to consume or prepare meals using these vegetables, innards, and fungus in order to increase alpha-lipoic acid since the body only produces a minimal amount of this antioxidant (which is normally just sufficient for glucose-to-energy conversion) as added protection against cell damage. An even faster way to increase these levels (especially at a later stage in life) is by regularly taking supplements containing this antioxidant. These supplements come in capsule and tablet form and may contain only this very powerful antioxidant or a combination with Vitamin A and Vitamin C.
While there is no official RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance), it has been shown through scientific studies that 200 milligrams of alpha-lipoic acid (100 milligrams per dose, two doses per day) is a generally sufficient daily maintenance regime to manage free radicals in the body. However, in cases where medical conditions like diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, atherosclerosis, HIV, poisoning, glaucoma, liver disease, etc., then the treatment regimen will require significantly higher levels of this antioxidant. Studies have clearly shown that treatment of diabetic and autonomic neuropathy with large doses of alpha-lipoic acid has generated modest success, one that increases significantly when combined with gamma linolenic acid. Care, however, must be taken in determining the right amount of this antioxidant to ensure that it is neither too low to be ineffective nor too high that it could cause more harm than good (e.g., taking alpha-lipoic acid when on insulin could be dangerous for a diabetic). Just to be sure, it is recommended that a physician be consulted to determine this.
Alpha-lipoic acid has been proven to be a valuable disease-fighting “tool” especially when present at the ideal levels inside the body. The operative word in the previous sentence is “ideal” so it is very important that a doctor is first consulted before going into a treatment regimen using this very powerful and useful antioxidant.
Alpha Lipoic Acid can be found in supplements such as MaxGXL™ which stimulates the body to produce more glutathione, the human body's MASTER antioxidant.
